The monastery of St. John the Merciful (Agios Ioannis Eleimon) is located very close to Chania airport, south of the village Pazinos or Gagalado. The monastery, was fortified and its walls are preserved in excellent condition.

The Gouverneto monastery, with its temple dedicated to Our Lady of the Angels. It is the oldest monastery of the Akrotiri peninsula and one of the most important monasteries of Crete.
From the Gouvernetou Monastery starts a downhill path and in ten minutes you will reach the Cave of Our Lady of Arkoudiotissa. (Continuing in 30 minutes you will reach the Catholic (or Katholiko).
The monastery is now ruined. There is an access through a trail that starts from the monastery Gouverneto, passes in front of the Cave of the Virgin Mary of Arkoudiotissa and ends up to the monastery (30' walking).
At Vlites position, by Souda port, in a beautifully landscaped scenery, there is the Souda Bay War Cemetery, where ceremonies take place every year in memory of the victims of the Second World War.
