Tampakaria

At the beginning of the 19th century, the area was home to tanneries, namely small leather craft businesses, which remained active until the end of the 1970s.

The location choice was ideal because it was only minutes away from the city of Chania and lay by the sea, as seawater was necessary to treat the hides.

Now only few small leather craft businesses are open. A visit to the area is worth to admire the unique architecture of the buildings.
